36th Annual Czech Days 2014 in Protivin
August 15th - 17th

“Accidental Hero”

presented by Patrick Dewane
Saturday August 16th at 1:30p p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home
Sunday, August 17th at 1:00 p.m.
at Hindt-Hudek Funeral
This is a one-man play about history, the reality of war and the mystery of heroes. Patrick Dewane tells the true story of his grandfather, a man whose seemingly goofy CB radio-handle during the 1970’s - “The Accidental Hero” - was really a clue to his incredible story as a WWII Czech-American soldier fighting in the forests of his family’s ancient homeland.

Patrick Dewane’s grandfather refused to tell stories about his service in WW II, yet when he died his basement yielded a trope of typewritten accounts, photos and rare film footage.  Dewane brings this archival material to glowing life in a one-man, multimedia show that offers an enthralling, humorous and heartwarming tale of miraculous escapes and astonishing coincidences.  He takes on a dozen different roles as he powerfully recounts his grandfather’s journey through the Battle of the Bulge, the liberation of Czechoslovakia and the poignant re-discovery of his own roots.”
LISA BROCK, MINNEAPOLIS STAR TRIBUNE
